Timeline

Christopher John Dodd was a five-term U. S. Senator from the state of Connecticut (who also served six years in the House of Representatives). After his 36-year-career in Washington ended, Dodd was signed on to be the CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America in March 2011 at a seven figure salary. In such capacity, he serves as the movie industry's chief lobbyist.

Dodd and Arlen Specter (R.-Penn.) founded the Children's Caucus to deal with issues of child abuse, latchkey children, and high school dropouts. In 1986, Dodd became chairman of the Subcommittee on Children, Families, Drugs, and Alcoholism.

As chairman of the Western Hemisphere Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the 1980s, he often led the Democrats against the policies of President Ronald Reagan.

He once ended a long day of political meetings in Memphis by launching a food fight at a Dunkin Donuts shop (this was 1978).

Graduated from University of Louisville Law School in 1972 and joined a law firm in New London, Connecticut.

Dodd served in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968 in Moncion, a village in the Dominican Republic. He lived alone in a cold-water tin-roof house, served as a rural community developer for eleven villages, opened a school, a youth club, and a maternity hospital, and launched a family planning program. When his stint was over, he hitchhiked across thousands of miles in Latin America before arriving home on Christmas Eve in 1968.
