Boies attended the University of Redlands, where he graduated with a degree in economics in 1962. He then attended Yale Law School, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1966. Boies has had a long and successful career as a lawyer. He has represented a number of high-profile clients, including Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election, the U.S. Department of Justice in its antitrust case against Microsoft, and the National Football League in its labor dispute with the players' union. He has also represented a number of other clients in civil and criminal cases. Boies is also a philanthropist and has donated to a number of causes, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Organization for Women, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
